Protect your home this festive season.

It’s always important to make sure security in your home is a top priority, and even more so as the festive season approaches.

Whether you have just moved into a new home, going on holiday, or staying at home for the festive season, it’s essential to ensure your safety measures are up-to-date to decrease risk of your property being hit by crime.

  1. Make your house less attractive to burgles

Using lights and other visual deterrents including alarms and CCTV cameras are a great way to keep your home safe as burglars don’t want to be seen. If you are going to be away from home, make it look like the house is still occupied with lights on timers. This makes robbers wary of your home as it will look like someone is home.

  1. Check your alarm is in working order

A state-of-the-art alarm system, especially one that is monitored by a responsive alarm company is a great way to keep your home safe.

It’s important to make sure it’s working, and you have reset all the alarm codes. Remember, if you don’t use your alarm or locks properly, you will not be properly covered by your insurance company.

  1. Protect your valuables

Never leave valuable items in sight as it acts an as advertisement to potential thieves. Make sure all your doors and windows are locked, even when you are home. Keep your keys in a safe place and ensure they are never left in the locks or kept within reach of openings.

  1. Keep your presents safe

Expensive presents on show under the tree are a welcoming invitation for robbers so try keeping presents out of sight; also, don’t leave any gift packaging outside your home advertising any new and expensive items inside.

  1. Be mindful on social media

Avoid publicising your travel plans on social media, if you are going away for Christmas, as this can alert people that your home is empty, and remember, everyone has Social Media, even thieves.

  1. Keep check on your keys

Stats show that in over 70% of robberies, the point of entry is through a door. So, make sure you always keep track of your keys and if you have misplaced them, it is wise to have your locks changed just in case.

The festive season is supposed to be all about good times and family, we don’t not want to be worrying about our homes and safety but unfortunately, in today’s day and age, we have to, but never fear because we at B-Sure Properties will always do our best to help you help yourself.
